Ben Keal takes on mighty Kilimanjaro volcano

A staunch supporter of St Andrew’s Hospice, local man Benjamin (25) Keal has raised huge amounts for the charity during the last few years.  His recent challenge will see him head for Tanzania, where he will take on the mighty Kilimanjaro volcano. At 5,895 metres above sea level, this is no easy fundraiser!

Ben’s support and admiration for the hospice began when his beloved Nanna, Gillian Shaw, was cared for during her cancer diagnosis.  She later received end of life care with the charity.

Ben’s story, in his own words …

“When I was 17, I got the shock of my life to hear my beloved Nanna had been diagnosed with cancer. If only we had known it was progressing so fast, and we didn’t have much time left with her.”

“St Andrew’s Hospice offered an astonishing amount of care for my Nanna, and also so much support for myself and our family.  Having experienced such a situation personally, I understand how important it is to raise money for the hospice in order to support the vital work they do to help so many other families.”

“I felt compelled to help and initially took on the Three Peaks Challenge in 2021.  Having raised £1,390, I have set my sights on the awesome Kilimanjaro, which I hope to conquer in September, 2022.”

“My commitment to training and taking part in the event itself brings me a huge sense of pride, peace and satisfaction, knowing I will be helping other people to receive such compassionate care when it is needed most.”

“The hospice does such a great job, not only in the hospice but also out in the community.  Can I ask everyone to get behind my campaign, please, and help me reach the target of £10k? In doing so you will be helping this fabulous local charity, providing support across the whole Humber region.  Whatever you can spare, every penny counts!”

“I will take each and every one of you with me, every step of the way! Watch out for my training updates, and posts from the mountain itself!”
