Wellbeing

The Wellbeing service at St Andrew's Hospice offers a varied timetable of activities throughout the week.

Our supportive and friendly environment can help alleviate isolation through regular social interaction and live well by having as much control of your condition as possible.

"I enjoy coming to the hospice for the company. The staff are always there to help you and will get you anything you need."

Dave, Wellbeing member

An opportunity for patients to use arts and crafts as a means for self-expression, self-development, relaxation and to be creative, using a variety of techniques and materials.

Group sessions providing effective safe exercise opportunities, promoting purposeful movement (strength and mobility) to increase and maintain independence and, where possible, promote progression to standing.

A supportive group to guide young adults and their families through the transition process from children’s services to adult services. It is a supportive environment designed to share work, build skills, improve confidence and have fun.

A range of activities and sessions as well as socialising opportunities. We encourage partners and carers to attend to gain friendships, peer support and share experiences, facilitated by a health professional.

A club for patients to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of growing flowers and vegetables, both in our indoor greenhouse and outdoor planting area, and to participate in other gardening related activities. This includes recycling, upcycling and renovating a variety of different items.

This group is based around supporting holistic independent needs for everyone. It offers support from the team but also from your peers, as well as encompassing a variety of different activities to meet your individual needs.

Designed to improve general health and wellbeing using breathing techniques and gentle stretching exercises and movements. This helps to reduce stress, whilst aiding balance and mobility.

Relaxation techniques and other mind and body practices can help calm your mind and sharpen your ability to focus. Yoga is a well-rounded exercise which strengthens and tones muscles, improves posture and improves flexibility and balance.

Provides practical support for women struggling with the visible side effects of cancer treatment, which can negatively affect self-esteem and confidence. These three-hour sessions are led by trained beauty volunteers, who share tips and techniques to help with eyebrow and eyelash loss and changes to skin.

A fun and informative workshop that helps with grooming basics; from simple cleansing and moisturising, to help with skin issues and shaving advice.

Looks at ways to help people manage the day-to-day impact of living with a cancer diagnosis, including managing symptoms, dealing with emotions, coping with fatigue and tips on communicating with doctors, health workers, family and friends.

We are unable to provide transport to any of our wellbeing sessions. We encourage patients who are not independent to request the support of family and friends to attend sessions.

Services such as Dial-A-Ride and Phone-N-Ride are popular choices for patients who are unable to arrange their own transport.
