I'm a carer

St Andrew’s Hospice recognises the vital role carers play in ensuring the health and wellbeing of those they care for. We strongly believe that offering carers information and support is a key part of what we do. We work in partnership with our local Carers' Support Service to ensure that you are being provided with all relevant information and support.

We recognise that as a husband, wife, mother, father, son or daughter, you may not think of yourself as a carer. But you are a carer if you provide unpaid necessary care by looking after a family member, friend, child or partner who is ill.

All carers are offered a carer’s assessment to enable us to identify any specific areas of support needs that we can help you with. We will also you give you information on the local Carers' Support Service.

If support is needed then it can be offered either on a one-to-one basis or within a group, depending on what suits the individual.

Facebook

For those who use social media, we have a specific closed group for carers within the St Andrew’s Hospice Facebook page. This is a place where carers can chat and support each other. We will need to verify that you are a carer before a request to join the group is accepted.

We also work closely with the Carers' Support Centre. A referral can be made so that you can access additional support.

Taking place on the second Monday of each month, our Carers' Coffee Break is an opportunity to meet with fellow carers. Join us in the Hub at St Andrew's Hospice, Peaks Lane, between 10am and 12pm.

If needed, you may bring your loved one with you to the hospice. Volunteers will be on hand to support any patients attending with a carer.
